Conditional free shipping on Shopify, with the rules you choose
RM: Advanced Free Shipping makes Shopify shipping discounts that apply only when your conditions are met, on all rates, the cheapest rate or the rates you name.
Among Shopify’s built-in discount types, the shipping one has one setting for the amount: free. RM: Advanced Free Shipping has four discount types: Free, Percentage, Fixed Amount Off and Fixed Price, so you can offer half-price shipping, $10 off Express, or flat $5 shipping over $50, each with its own conditions. It costs $9.90 USD every 30 days after a 7-day free trial, billed by Shopify.
The four types on two rates
Here is each type on a Standard rate of $12.00 and an Express rate of $30.00:
| Discount type | Setting | Standard $12.00 becomes | Express $30.00 becomes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | none | $0.00 | $0.00 |
| Percentage | 50 | $6.00 | $15.00 |
| Fixed Amount Off | 10 | $2.00 | $20.00 |
| Fixed Price | 5 | $5.00 | $5.00 |
- Free makes the rate $0.
- Percentage takes a share off the rate, up to 100%.
- Fixed Amount Off takes a set amount off. If the amount is more than the rate, the rate becomes free, and it never goes below $0. A $25 shipping credit makes an $18.40 rate free.
- Fixed Price sets the rate to a flat price. A rate that already costs that price or less is left alone, so a $4.00 rate stays $4.00 under a $5 Fixed Price. It never raises a rate.
A worked cart: half-price shipping over $50
The offer is 50% off every shipping rate on orders of $50 or more. The rates are Standard $9.50 and Express $22.00.
- A $64 cart sees Standard at
$9.50$4.75 and Express at$22.00$11.00. With Standard, the customer pays $68.75. - A $45 cart pays full shipping, so $54.50 with Standard.
To build it: click Create Shipping Discount, add Cart total Is at least 50 under Conditions, choose All shipping rates under Discount setup, then set Discount value to Percentage and enter 50. See percentage off shipping.

Different types on different rates
One discount can hold several delivery discounts. Open the ⋯ menu on Discount setup and choose Add delivery discount. For example, make Standard Free and take Fixed Amount Off 10 from Express. On a $120 cart with Standard at $8.95 and Express at $24.95, Standard becomes free and Express becomes $14.95.
Tiers: $10 off over $50, free over $100
Create two separate discounts:
- Cart total Is at least 50 → Fixed Amount Off 10.
- Cart total Is at least 100 → Free.
Only one shipping discount applies to a rate, and Shopify gives the customer the one that saves the most. A $70 cart with a $12.00 rate pays $2.00 for shipping. A $110 cart qualifies for both, so it gets the free one. See tiered shipping discounts.
The dashboard lists each discount with its type and the rates it covers:
Other currencies
Fixed amounts and fixed prices are entered in your store’s currency. For customers paying in another currency, RM: Advanced Free Shipping converts them with Shopify’s exchange rate. See free shipping thresholds in multiple currencies.
What customers see
At checkout, the discounted rate shows the original price crossed out with the new price beside it. The discount’s title, or the code, appears underneath.
“Great app, we now finally have a way to do % or fixed $ amount discounts off all shipping rates or specific ones only.” — KioskCokelat (ID)
Without an app
Shopify’s free shipping discount only makes rates free. In Settings → Shipping and delivery, live carrier rates can carry a negative adjustment such as -20%, which lowers that rate for everyone, on every order. To make a percentage, an amount off or a fixed price depend on the cart, the customer or the address, use RM: Advanced Free Shipping. See what Shopify’s free shipping discount can’t do.
RM: Advanced Free Shipping is Built for Shopify and rated 5.0 on the Shopify App Store. All four discount types are in the one plan, at $9.90 USD every 30 days after a 7-day free trial, billed by Shopify. Install it from the Shopify App Store.
